Nourishing people, communities, and the land.

As both a working and educational nonprofit farm, World Hunger Relief has a threefold commitment:

1. Nourishing people, communities, and the land
2. Demonstrating replicable and regenerative small-scale farming techniques
3. Finding and sharing solutions for today’s food system’s challenges

Our Property

We have a 40-acre working farm just outside of Waco, Texas. Portions of our land are utilized for our various enterprises, including:

  • Livestock housing and pasture
  • Vegetable production
  • Commercial composting
  • Educational gardens
  • Indoor & outdoor classroom and education spaces
  • Farm community housing
  • Administrative and educational spaces

Additionally, we have a portion of land that’s currently covered in a mesquite patch, two ponds, and a few lovely hidden places to sit and enjoy.

Carl & Jean Ryther Education Building

Named in honor of our first Education Director, Carl Ryther and his wife Jean, our two-story, 3,500-square-foot Education Building is made entirely out of straw bales grown right next door! Straw bale buildings are typically less expensive to build and require much less specialized labor and tools. This natural insulation can perform 2-3x more efficiently than well-insulated homes and often 5-10x more than older homes. This can save up to 75% in energy costs! Most construction materials today use synthetic and highly processed materials that contribute significantly to indoor and outdoor pollution, while straw bale construction is natural, sustainable, and pollutant-free.

Our Education Building was crafted using wheat straw. Chicken wire surrounds the stacks of straw bales and is then covered with plaster to protect the straw from moisture. With little moisture and a high carbon/low nitrogen content, the straw is resistant to decomposition! Straw bale buildings even provide 3x more burn resistance than conventional builds with stellar soundproofing and a unique and beautiful aesthetic.

As Giving Tuesday comes to a close, we’re asking As Giving Tuesday comes to a close, we’re asking our community to help us finish strong. We’re still working to close the $15,000 goal, and your gift tonight fuels Farm Camp scholarships, livestock care, and hands-on education, -and volunteer outreach as we head into our 50th year.
If just 60 people give $25 before midnight, we’ll hit our goal.
There’s still time to make a real impact.
Give before midnight and help us grow forward.
In McLennan County, we have 552,000+ acres of farm In McLennan County, we have 552,000+ acres of farmland—yet only a small fraction grows food for local families. Nearly 1 in 5 residents faces food insecurity, and 1 in 4 children doesn’t have reliable access to healthy food.
The barrier isn’t land.
It’s capacity, education, and access.
That’s where World Hunger Relief steps in.
We train the next generation of growers.
We teach kids where their food comes from.
We grow fresh produce that stays in our community.
We build systems that help healthy food reach the families who need it most.
As we enter our 50th year, we’re working to close a $15,000 gap left after Abundance so we can keep this work strong in 2025.
If you believe Central Texas deserves a resilient, community-rooted food system, today is the day to help grow it.
Give this Giving Tuesday and help us grow forward. #givingtuesday
