Summer Farm Camp at World Hunger Relief
At WHR’s Summer Farm Camp, children from kindergarten to 7th grade make new friends, play together outdoors, experience life on a farm, and learn about a variety of agricultural and environmental topics.
A Summer of Learning, Play, and Purpose!
At World Hunger Relief, Farm Camp offers children a hands-on, immersive experience that connects them to food, land, and community. Through gardening, caring for animals, composting, cooking, and farm-based exploration, campers learn where food comes from and why caring for the land matters.
Each day is rooted in learning by doing. Campers participate in age-appropriate activities that spark curiosity, build confidence, and encourage responsibility and collaboration. Along the way, they enjoy fresh, farm-grown lunches and snacks while discovering how sustainable agriculture, stewardship of creation, and community care are essential to alleviating hunger—both locally and beyond.
Farm Camp is designed to be joyful, meaningful, and memorable. Children leave with muddy boots, new friendships, and a deeper understanding of how caring for the land helps us care for one another.

Service Learning Program
World Hunger Relief’s Blackland Prairie Center for Sustainability offers a dynamic Service Learning Program (SLP). Our SLPs use our 40-acre working farm as an interactive learning lab where participants have the opportunity to participate in engaging hands-on volunteer experiences and educational activities.
These experiences help participants gain a deeper understanding of the issues affecting hunger, environmental care, agriculture, and food systems while joining in the life and work of our farm. Through engaging learning experiences and guided discussions, we explore the realities of our food system, sustainable practices, inequities in food access and distribution, and environmental sustainability. Each day participants might have opportunities to assist in our orchard, gardens, composting program, or livestock enterprise, as well as other farm projects. Central to our program are the guided discussions that help to cultivate habits of critical reflection in our participants. An emphasis is placed on participants understanding, applying, and integrating the knowledge they receive through our daily activities and reflections.
We strive to customize the experience and focus on aspects or themes important to your group. All Service Learning Programs include: 2 to 4 facilitated volunteer activities per day, 1 class/ interactive farm tour per day, daily debrief activity, access to purchase farm fresh produce, meat, and eggs (subject to availability) and discounted/ priority access to add-on activities (e.g. campfire, team building activities, etc.).
Our Service Learning Program can be modified to accommodate half-day, full-day, and multi-day opportunities with on-farm housing options. For more specific information, follow the link below or contact localeducation@worldhungerrelief.org!

Classes and Workshops
The Urban Homestead exists to inspire and educate members of the Waco community to transform urban yards, schools, parks, faith lands, and empty lots into beautiful, ecologically designed sites of production. This is achieved through modeling affordable, abundant and holistic production systems alongside a community learning and resource center.
